Here are four areas of grave concern where Freemasonry departs from Biblical Christianity. These points have been taken from my live seminar teaching “Freemasonry vs. The Lodge.”

Masonry, Deception, and Secret Knowledge

For man, Masonry is a quest for secret wisdom and knowledge. Thus, as men go through the levels of Masonry they are told they are becoming "enlightened" as they are taught that those in the lower levels are still blinded.

Albert Pike was the Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite for three decades (1859-1891) and is the most recognized philosopher of Freemasonry today. He wrote:

The Blue Degrees are but the outer court or portico of the Temple. Part of the symbols are displayed there to the Initiate, but he is intentionally misled by false interpretations. It is not intended that he shall understand them, but it is intended that he shall imagine he understands them.”
Morals and Dogma, p.819, Albert Pike

Thankfully, the God of the Bible never makes us jump through hoops and doesn’t arbitrarily hold back any good gift from those who seek Him!

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6

“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?”
Matthew 7:11

Could there ever be anything worth seeking or any knowledge worth knowing than what the Creator of all things has to offer His children? Of course, the answer is an emphatic NO!

The Swearing of Secret Oaths

Beginning with the first degree ritual of the Blue Lodge inductees swear oaths and promise silence that whatever happens inside the temple is kept from the outside world.

As things progress, new members are blindfolded, pant legs rolled up, daggers or swords used in intimidating ways, brought to bow before the “Worshipful Master,” and finally secret oaths sworn.

Here is the Oath sworn at the First Degree level.

“As this I most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear, binding myself under no less a penalty than that of having my throat cut from ear to ear, my tongue torn out by its roots and with my body, buried in the sands of the sea at low-water mark, where the tide ebbs flows twice in twenty-five hours, should I ever knowingly or willfully violate or transgress this, my Entered Apprentice obligation. So help me God and make me steadfast to keep and perform the same.”

The Third Degree Oath states:

“All this I most solemnly and sincerely promise and swear, binding myself under no less penalty than that of having my body severed in two, my bowels torn from thence and burned to ashes, and these scattered before the four winds of Heaven, that no more remembrance might be had among men or Masons of so vile a wretch as I should be, should I in the least knowingly or willfully violate or transgress this, my Master Mason obligation. So help me God and make me steadfast…”

There is no way to explain what this is other than to declare it to be a DEATH CURSE that inductees swear upon themselves.

If you ask Freemasons if this is true, they usually just look away in silence, occasionally they deny it, and some blame you for asking about it. Thankfully, there is freedom from these curses but it’s often a spiritual struggle. I would suggest that any Mason who wants to be free should immediately accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and then renounce any and all such oaths, their ties to the Lodge, and to its false, composite god known as “Jah-Bu-Lon” or J.B.L. a signifying Jehovah, Baal, and Osiris.

Placing a Christian - who is also a Freemason - in positions of leadership in any capacity within a church is akin to bringing Baal worship into the congregation! In fact, there are solid, biblical reasons why numerous Christian denominations and fellowships forbid their members and leaders from participating in Masonic membership or activities.

These groups include:

The Presbyterian Church in America

The Assemblies of God

The Church of the Nazarene

The Pentecostal Holiness Church

The Congregational Holiness Church

The Reformed Presbyterian Church

The Church of God (Cleveland, TN)

The Foursquare Church

The Pentecostal Church of God

The Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada

Some Lutherans

Some Baptists

Even The Catholic Church forbids Membership in Freemasonry! [1]

If that were not enough, Jesus Christ forbids swearing oaths at all!

“But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”
Matthew 5:34-37

Masonry’s “god” and Religion

It is quite correct to make God lower case ("god") when speaking about the use of "a god" in Masonry.

If we lived in Egypt, for example, the Qur'an would be the book used in Masonic rituals. In India, it would be Hindu teachings, etc.

Members often deny that Masonry is a religion. While it is true that Masonry does not require members to reject or leave any of the world’s religions and while some Masonic authors claim the Lodge is not actually a religion at all, one looming fact outside of Masonry’s control must be considered. That is, the Bible calls all who embrace Christ to forsake all organizations be they recognized as religious or not, who embrace “other gods” (such as “Jah-Bu-Lon”) endorse other paths to eternal life, or who employ secret rituals, the swearing of oaths, and conflicting allegiances. No matter what members may say and regardless of how or why they protest it, Masonry is, by definition, a religion.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “religion as: “a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices.” [2]

“The one eternal religion of Masons is the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man.”
The Builders, Joseph Newton

“Every Masonic Temple is a Temple of Religion, and its teachings are instructions in religion.”
The Lost Keys of Freemasonry, p. 213, Manly P. Hall, 33o, Macoy Publishing and Masonic Supply Co, Richmond, VA, 1976

“Freemasonry is NOT Christianity nor a substitute for it…but the religion of Masonry is not sectarian. It admits men of every creed within its hospitable bosom, rejecting none and approving none for his particular faith…Masonry is, indeed, a religious institution…”
The Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, p. 618-619, Albert G. Mackey, 1921

“The true Mason is not creed-bound. He realizes with the divine illumination of his lodge that as a Mason his religion must be universal: Christ, Buddha, or Mohammed, the name means little, for he recognizes only the light and not the bearer. He worships at every shrine, bows before every altar, whether in temple, mosque or cathedral, realizing with his truer understanding the oneness of all spiritual truth.”
The Lost Keys of Freemasonry, p. 65, Manly P. Hall, 33o, Macoy Publishing and Masonic Supply Co, Richmond, VA, 1976

The most incriminating quote that I know of asserting Masonry incompatible with Christianity is found in the Introduction pages in the Masonic King James Bible given to those at the end of the 3rd degree ritual. I have seen identical wording in Bibles from the North Carolina, Idaho, and Washington State lodges.

“Masonry remembers what so many (religions) forget, that religions are many but religions are ONE…As the man of the Koran swears on the book he loves best and the Hindu on their sacred scrolls, Masonry remembers that we are approaching the nameless one of a hundred names.”
Introduction page of Masonic Bible - Idaho Lodges

Even before one comes to Genesis 1:1, readers are told that every religion is equal. This is absolute and blatant Universalism. This clearly defies the teachings of the Bible and mocks the very reason that Christ gave His life on the Cross. One can never reconcile Acts 4:12, Philippians 2:9-11, etc., with Masonry.

Freemasonry is MORE than just Religion

“Many Freemasons shudder at the word occult which comes from the Latin, meaning to cover, to conceal from public scrutiny and the profane. But anyone studying Freemasonry cannot avoid classifying Freemasonry among occult teachings.”
The Royal Arch: Its Hidden Meaning, by George H. Steinmetz, Macoy Publishing and Masonic Supply Co., Inc. 1946, p. 147.

“...Masonic orders have contained the most influential men in many governments, and virtually every occult order has many Masonic roots.”
The Satanic Rituals, Anton Szandor LaVey, Avon Books 1972, p. 78.

Page 36 of The History of Magic by Eliphas Levi contains the same words Pike wrote on page 161 of Morals and Dogma:

“Lucifer, the Light-bearer! Strange and mysterious name to give to the Spirit of Darkness! Lucifer, the Son of the Morning! Is it he who bears the Light, and with its splendors intolerable blinds feeble, sensual, or selfish Souls? Doubt it not!”

Why am I including a quote from Anton LaVey, arguably the most famed Satanist in history? Because he understands the occult nature and Luciferian power, found in Freemasonry!

“When the Mason learns that the key to the warrior on the block is the proper application of the dynamo of living power. He has learned the Mystery of the Craft. The seething energies of LUCIFER are in his hands, and before he may step onward and upward (through the degrees) he must prove his ability to properly apply this energy.”
The Lost Keys of Freemasonry, p. 48, Manley P. Hall

Listen to what Albert Pike instructed the Supreme Councils of the World when he was Grand Commander, Sovereign Pontiff of Universal Freemasonry, July 14, 1889:

“Yes, Lucifer is God, and unfortunately Adonay is also god…the true and pure philosophical religion is the belief in Lucifer, the equal of Adonay; but Lucifer, God of light and God of Good, is struggling for humanity against Adonay the god of Darkness and Evil.”

What Should a Mason Do?

To the Mason - Embrace Jesus Christ ALONE!

Repent of all sin - including involvement in Freemasonry. Renounce every ritual and all activity born in Freemasonry.

To the Christian - Warn Others

Pray for God’s wisdom and direction for you and that the eyes of those caught up in Masonry be opened. They probably do not realize it, especially if Masonry is being defended to you as compatible with the Bible and Christianity, but their very eternity is at stake. Nothing should prohibit us from challenging anyone to examine what they believe if it is currently leading them away from God and into Hell.

To Family Member of those involved in Freemasonry - Pray

Pray and do not give up! Persevere and believe God for the deliverance of loved ones or friends involved in the Lodge, Eastern Star, DeMolay, Job’s Daughters, Rainbow Girls, etc.

Finally...

Please understand that it is of no advantage to me to mention Freemasonry. I do so only because of my calling in Apologetics. Those involved in Freemasonry need to be warned. If it was about looking for the easy path I would never discuss the Lodge because of the spiritual warfare and defensive vitriol that comes at anyone daring to call Masons out of the Lodge and into saving relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ. Please hear my heart and the clear warning of Scripture. If you say you are a Christian then please examine what I have said in just this short article. If I am wrong then it doesn't matter at all. But if I am correct you must turn to God through Christ's blood sacrifice. Nothing that Freemasonry offers on earth is worth an eternity in Hell. How awful to face eternity mixing light with darkness - exactly what a Christian participating in Freemasonry does each day they are attached to  the Lodge.

Thank God for Jesus' sacrifice and His offer of forgiveness. It is found in the Cross and nowhere else. For those who approach Him by faith and humble themselves, His forgiveness and cleansing is thorough and it is complete. Don't delay.

As I have stated many times, if God can deliver me from the years of addiction and false New Age spirituality then He can truly deliver anyone who seeks Him! Perhaps reading my story will help you on your way.

* About the logo for this article: Pyramid/Eye from US Dollar Bill: Dictionary.com states: “The first phrase is located just above the eye and reads, Annuit Coeptis. Derived from the Latin annuo, meaning “to nod” or “to approve” and coeptum, “undertakings,” “to move toward,” the phrase literally translates as “He approves of the undertakings.” And the phrase Novus ordo seclorum, located just below the pyramid, literally translates as “New world order.” (https://www.dictionary.com/e/dollar-bill/) Together these five Latin words mean “Toward the New World Order.

[1] As biblical beliefs continue to slip there is certainly a possibility that one or more of these denominations may relax their stand on membership in Freemasonry. The list of denominations shown here was current and correct in 2005.

Though listed, I do not consider the Roman Catholic Church a denomination and list them only for emphasis.
