Addendum to Microsoft Product Analyzer - this was emailed to our list and is important help in understanding and completing PC fix for Y2K

"Guide to Fix your PC for Y2K" - UPDATE!!!

If you are one of the hundreds of folks who have written
me and have been working on updating your
PC for Y2K, and you are following the outline in the
Y2K Guide loaded on my web site -

YOU NEED TO READ THIS!

In talking with a friend tonight I realized that a little more
explanation might be in order concerning an important facet
of fixing your PC.

The report that appears after Microsoft Product
Analyzer is run to evaluate the system and Microsoft
software products running on your PC isn't worded very
clearly. Below is a sample of the report.


Windows 98 4.10.1998 (English) Compliant
Internet Explorer 5.0 (English) Compliant
ADO 2.0 (English) Compliant
Access 97 8.0 SR-1 (English) Compliant
(prerequisite required)
DAO 3.0 (English) Compliant
DAO 3.5 (English) Compliant
Excel 97 8.0a SR-1 (English) Compliant
(prerequisite required, updates pending)

Any program that has (prerequisite required) after it
NEEDS an update that must be downloaded from the
Microsoft site. Finding things in the Microsoft site is not all
that convenient but it's not rocket science either. If I can
do it I know you can too.

But do NOT short cut the process! Although I did not know
what some of the Microsoft programs running on my PC actually
do, I decided, as with Y2K issues in general, DO NOT TAKE
CHANCES! Reading the statement that appears in the Report
that the Microsoft Product Analyzer generates convinced me
even more - fix ALL of the software - not just part of it. It reads
as follows:

"PLEASE NOTE: To help avoid potential Year 2000 issues,
your applications and your operating system should both be
Year 2000 compliant. (For example: a compliant application
running on a non-compliant operating system might receive
incorrect date information from the operating system.)"

Hope this helps to clarify and makes your mission of completing
Y2K fixes easier.
