Windows Internal Setting-Four digit Controversy

Sorry to interrupt you once again so soon but...
I need to address a "hoax" warning currently circulating on
the Internet...As if I didn't have enough to do...lol!!!

Today I received an email informing me that F-Secure Corp.
(formally known as Datafellows) had released a "hoax warning"
concerning the "four digit date setting" in the internal settings of
Windows. This is something I mention in the "Guide to Fix your
PC for Y2K" which I offered to you in yesterday's email Newsletter.

But before you do let me say that I had seen the particular
email which they call a "hoax" and had it checked out myself.

While I understand the point they are trying to make, I believe
that their good intentions may leave folks confused, thus I
am adding this clarification.

Here is the text to an email I sent to F-Secure just minutes ago.

<<< Gentlemen,

While it is true that by fixing *ONLY* the four digit date settings
for the year code inside Windows will *NOT*, by itself, make
one's computer Y2K compliant, it *IS* something that needs
to be addressed to complete Y2K remediation on a PC.

Your "hoax" warning, while true within itself, leaves one with
the mistaken impression that there is no need to adjust the
year settings in Windows for Y2K compliance.

Please do not allow ANYONE to dissuade you from completing
Y2K fixes - including the simple internal year code setting.

My PC mentor and previous webmaster told me that I have
"probably saved a lot of folks a lot of trouble by mentioning the
four digit date setting within Windows." Others, knowledgeable
of the setting have echoed the same.

If you have not requested the easy to use "Guide to Fix your
PC for Y2K" that I offered in last nights email, it is free for the
asking.

It will be one more safeguard to ensure that you have done
everything possible to remediate your PC for the coming century
rollover. You still have 2+ days but time is running out.
